Naomi decided for her recent birthday celebration the house should enjoy Hungry Lion (Zambian KFC) and a small cake.
The girls enjoyed the celebration with singing and sharing. A tradition in Zambia is that when you have a birthday cake, the person whose birthday is being celebrated is to cut the first piece and then shares a bite of that piece with everyone in attendance. A video of that tradition is included.
The girls in the house love that we celebrate birthdays and now each girl is planning how she would like to have her birthday celebrated.
In additional news, Zambia is now under major “load shedding” which means power is being cut across the nation for 8-10 hours at a time, and then when it comes back on, the amount of time it is there is very variable, sometimes less than an hour. This is making all activities very difficult once the sun sets. You will notice the girls celebrating using a rechargeable light.
