Here are some updates from the girl’s house in Mufulira. We hope this brings more insight into what it’s like from day to day being in the house. Clara and the girls are living as a beautiful family.
- Clara serving breakfast to the children – every day the children are served breakfast. School starts at different times depending on the grade the student is in, but the girls all have a chance to eat something nutritious before they head off to school. Three of the girls leave the house by 6:00 am and arrive at school by 6:30am. The next few girls don’t have to leave until around 8:00 am. The final set report for afternoon classes. Breakfast can vary day by day, We have different sometimes it’s tea with bread, sometimes crushed maize (known as sampo), or rice and other nutritional foods. This is part of our balanced diet we are serving the girls.
- The girls helping with laundry – each of the girls help with all of the chores around the house, including the large amount of daily laundry. Each day uniforms must be washed and prepared for the next school day. This is common in Zambia, not just to our house. Weekends are bedding was days. The girls go through a lot of water to accomplish this task. The girls find the chores “fun” and love being a part of a family that helps each other.
