Micah is being welcomed into the care of WellSpring due to the difficult circumstances faced by her family. Her mother works hard doing small, irregular jobs, but it’s often not enough to meet even their most basic needs. Many days, there is little or no food, and the living conditions have become unsafe—especially for young girls like Micah.
Micah is the younger sister of Annie, who is already part of the WellSpring family. Together, they now have a chance to grow up in a nurturing environment where their safety, education, and well-being are prioritized.
Micah’s Story – As Shared by Her Mother, Georgina
“My name is Georgina, and I live in Kawama East. I am 46 years old and the mother of six children. Life has been very difficult for us. I never had the opportunity to go to school and I have no stable job. Each day, I try to find small tasks like washing clothes in urban compounds, but we often survive on as little as K40 (about $2.00) per day.
My husband, Charles, once worked for Olympic Milling Company. After retiring, he left our family and remarried. For the past seven years, he has not supported us in any way—not financially, emotionally, or even by visiting his children.
Of our six children—Smart (23), Fighton (18), Marvelous (17), Wisdom (16), Annie (13), and Micah (9)—only one, Marvelous, is currently in school. Due to our financial challenges, I’ve been able to keep only my two youngest daughters, Annie and Micah, with me. The others are staying with kind-hearted people in the community.
Life is incredibly hard. Most days we go without food, and I cannot afford to send Annie and Micah to school. No one in our family has completed their education—our oldest child had to stop in grade 8. I am asking for help so Annie and Micah can be enrolled at WellSpring. I want them to have the education and opportunities I never had, so they can build a better life and support one another in the future.”
