Vincent goes to school at Gasto Community School and stays mostly with his grandparents. They provide his shelter, food, and school supplies. On the same property is an additional small house where his aunt stays and she helps with Vincent as she can, but the entire family is struggling for survival. Vincent’s father is jailed and his mother never completed her education and is only able to sell vegetables which is not enough income to care for the two of them. Vincent is one of the children we are helping by providing his school supplies, uniform, and shoes as well as school requirements (it is customary for government schools to require children to help with maintenance and upkeep supplies for the school such as toilet paper, brooms, slashers for cutting grass as examples – these have minimal cost, but for a child in extreme poverty they are monumental expenses).
My name is Vincent I am 14years old and I stay with my aunt. My father was arrested in 2018 and mother remarried to another man. After my mother got married I started staying with my grandmother, I was under 2 years at that time. My mother just dumped me at grannies place and they are the ones that raised me.
My grandparents do not work they stay in Kawama East. They just do small farming for us to survive. We are 15 people all together at our grandparents place.
I started schooling in grade 3 at Gasto Community school, now I am doing my grade 5. I never schooled grades 1 and 2. But I was able to pass tests that allowed me to go directly into grade 3.
Due to my grandparents financial challenges, we only have 1 meal or no meal in a day. We face a lot of challenges even getting school supplies is a challenge for my family.
I want to be educated and your help is needed for me to finish school because we have a lot of challenges to face at home. I want to finish school and my dream is to become a soldier or lawyer.
