The History Of WellSpring

WellSpring, a Christ Centered ministry called to rescue and bring restoration to the orphaned and vulnerable children clinging to survival in extreme poverty, was founded in the winter of 2022. The organization is based on the foundational model found in Matthew 14:13-21. This Bible story tells how Jesus and his young team ministered to those who were hurting, despite it not being an “ideal” season for them. This is a crucial lesson that is still relevant today.

In this story, Jesus shows us that while sharing the gospel with those who are hurting, it is also our calling to meet their physical needs. “You give them something to eat,” He says. When His team says, “How? We just have five loaves and two fish,” Jesus answers them clearly – “Give it all to me”. Christ is the miracle worker; He alone multiplies and provides for the crowd that day, and He still multiplies today.

The name WellSpring comes from Psalms 36:9, which says, “For the WellSpring of life is with you. By means of your light, we see light”. Christ is the WellSpring, the eternal source of life. Just as He was the one multiplying the fish and the loaves to meet the physical needs of those who needed eternal hope, it is still Christ today who is the giver of life and the multiplier, the true miracle worker.

WellSpring was truly a calling, an invitation to take the previous combined decades of involvement in ministry and to allow the Lord to multiply the tiny amount of “everything,” to truly do things in a different methodology. In March 2022, with just a calling, and only a “few fish and a few loaves,” the team began establishing the NGO in Zambia.

The board was formed, and the team began praying over the first community WellSpring was to serve. WellSpring saw their prayers answered in powerful ways. First, the NGO process which should have taken at least a year was completed in less than four months. WellSpring was certified to begin working under the Zambian Ministry of Social Welfare.

From the beginning, it was the heart of the team to be able to serve in an underserved part of the country. The prayers kept pointing to the northeast part of Zambia, an area known as the Copper Belt. By June 2022, it was clear to the team that the Lord had led them to the community of Mufulira.

The first home for girls was founded, a simple rented home, and preparations of furnishing the home, establishing relationships in the community, and most importantly, preparing the hearts of the team that would be doing the work on the ground. The work the Lord had put before WellSpring just six months prior was officially launched.

WellSpring is a young, fresh, vibrant, new wine in new wineskins. The team is grateful for the calling and what the Lord did to bring them to this calling, in a way the team was “scattered” similar to the early church in Acts, but it is for God’s glory.

In less than two years, the impact of WellSpring is being seen and felt. The lives of the children, their families, and the communities that surround WellSpring are being impacted by the Gospel, the good news of Jesus, and the eternal hope, and life-changing water, He brings to their lives.

The Vision of WellSpring

To see God restore, transform, and grow generations of Christ followers from the ashes of impoverished, hopeless children who are voiceless and clinging to survival.

The Mission of WellSpring

Wellspring is a ministry dedicated to serving vulnerable children and orphans around the world with a Christ-centered approach. WellSpring provides both immediate relief and long-term rescue and restoration care. The children are placed in a stable, loving, and Christ-centered home where all their physical needs are met. Along with that, they are exposed to the love of Christ and encouraged to embark on a journey of healing and restoration. The ministry offers counseling, education, life skills training, and guidance to the children to seek God’s will for their future and follow His calling in their lives. The ultimate goal of Wellspring is to provide comprehensive care for the children and help them become self-sufficient and productive members of society.
