Catherine came to WellSpring after living with her grandmother, who, despite her love and dedication, was unable to consistently provide for Catherine’s basic needs—especially food and access to education. With neither parent involved in her life, Catherine lacked the support and resources every child needs to grow and thrive. She is now part of the WellSpring family, where she receives daily care, nourishment, and the opportunity to pursue her education in a safe and loving environment.
Catherine has never known her father, and her mother battles alcoholism, often spending her time in and around local bars. For much of her life, Catherine has been raised by her grandmother—a resilient woman who does her best through small jobs and gardening, but who often struggles to provide even one meal a day for Catherine and her younger cousin, Blessings.
At times, Catherine’s mother would reappear and take the girls with her, only to leave them sleeping outside the bars where she engaged in prostitution. These situations placed both children in serious danger and instability.
Recognizing the urgent need for safety and care, Catherine and Blessings were brought into the WellSpring family. Here, they are now protected, nurtured, and given the chance to grow up with dignity, hope, and love.
