Saturday Bible studies play a crucial role in our ministry, as they provide an opportunity for engagement with the sponsored boys. Our team has been gaining valuable insights into the lives of the children we support and the positive impact we have on their circumstances. The focus of our initial weeks of Bible study has centered on helping the children understand creation, the nature of God, and the process of human formation. During these sessions, the children have been articulating their perspectives on their knowledge and understanding of God.
Four children joined us last Saturday from the Kawama East College area, identifiable in the main picture (Innocent – in a blue shirt, Derrick, Shepherd, and Reuben, on the far right). These four boys, all hailing from the same neighborhood in Kawama East, begin their day promptly at 6 a.m. and, by 7 a.m., engage in selling vegetables door to door before heading to school. They participate in this endeavor to assist their families in earning money for sustenance, typically generating between K10 and K15 ($.35-.40) from their sales. The boys have no alternative but to contribute to their household expenses. Innocent and Reuben share a household with their single mother and two brothers; their mother’s income fluctuates seasonally, depending on available resources. They spend approximately 4 to 5 hours engaged in selling vegetables to help support their family.
Despite their early morning commitments to vegetable sales, the boys remain dedicated to attending Bible study. They express a genuine enthusiasm for learning about the Word of God and enjoying time with their friends.
