Mary and Nessia were referred to Wellspring by the Ministry of Social Welfare, a Zambian government office with which we have a close working relationship. They required immediate and temporary protective services as two young girls aged 9 and 12.
The children were deceived by a young male who intended to exploit them for trafficking and potential assault after encountering them on their walk along the highways to Kitwe, approximately 35 miles from their starting point. The girls had been left at home to manage on their own for nearly a month, as their family departed for northern farming activities.
A concerned stranger intervened upon seeing these two young girls with this young man, informing the authorities; however, the young male had already harmed the 12-year-old prior to this.
Mary and Nessia stayed alongside our other girls for a few days until the Ministry of Social Welfare could secure their safe placement with an aunt who is now responsible for their care.
At times, our role is to provide long-term support, and at others, we are called to express faithfulness and obedience for a brief period. It is through your contributions that WellSpring can fulfill both roles effectively.
We kindly ask you to continue praying for both of these girls. Unfortunately, such distressing stories are becoming increasingly common, and as the economic situation in Zambia deteriorates, conditions are expected to worsen.
