Farming Update

Due to the recent poor rainfall in Zambia, the Wellspring team did not undertake significant maize or crop production at the farm. However, we are still utilizing the plot for smaller farming activities. With the help of James, our caretaker and administrative assistant, we managed to plant some maize. This activity supports the girls during their school break and provides them with valuable farming knowledge.

Maize is the most widely grown crop in Zambia, as we rely on corn meal (maize meal) for our daily meals. The price of maize meal has tripled over the past year. Many people are struggling to afford three meals a day because of rising corn meal prices and other costs. Maize is a staple for many Zambian families, commonly served for breakfast and lunch, with some relying on it as their sole meal each day in Mufulira.
