Updates From Zambia

Part of Wellspring’s vision is to impact widows and abandoned families that are struggling to survive. We feel it’s critical to reach beyond just the needs of the child, and when we are able we want to impact the lives of the extended families these children are coming from.

On Saturday the 6 May 2023 the Wellspring team went for a day of fun to the Mufulira Boating Club, a recreation center that offers entertainment such as a large swimming pool, playground and picnic facilities, and pontoon boat cruise.

A few weeks back we were approached by a woman who sales vegetables in the local market. She told us the story of an 10 year girl she had met in the months prior. The little girl named Shilla would come to the market with just a few vegetables, sometimes nearly spoiled, but looking to sell what she could, just a few coins worth.

Reuben comes from a family of three boys, and he’s the oldest. His mom is a loving single parent who works super hard to support her three kids—Reuben, Innocent, and Haggai—as they finish school.

Every Saturday afternoon everyone involved with WellSpring is invited to join for a time of bible study, prayer, and praise.

This past week our team was joined by an interdenominational team called “The Family of Christ”. The team is comprised of several individuals from the surrounding community coming together for the purpose of sharing the good news of Christ and touching the lives of those in need with donated resources.

Over the past week, 15 team members from Campus Crusade for Christ out of Lusaka have been working in conjunction with WellSpring in and around the communities we serve in Mufulira Zambia. 5 of the team members, young women, have been residing at the WellSpring house with the girls, with the primary focus of ministering and counseling the female residents.

The others have been working in and around the communities and compounds we serve sharing the gospel through testimony, and community impact programs such as providing vegetable seeds, and sanitary kits for the women.

Last Saturday,Clara and Serah took six of the girls—Jolima, Martha, Idah, Mary, Annie, and Small Naomi—for a special event at their church.

Wednesday, April 12 was Clara’s birthday and for our house, that means the family gathers to celebrate the special day. As WellSpring we celebrate Clara, her ministry, her work, and the way she pours into the children and staff. She is seen as a sister, aunt, and mother to those in WellSpring.

On March 12th Zambia celebrated Youth Day. As part of the celebration, the “youth” of the church were in charge of the service.

​I was blessed to travel to Zambia from February 7th through the 22nd. I have been adjusting back to being in the US. The trip was overwhelming in so many ways. This was my first opportunity to meet the children God has blessed us to serve.

The word I keep saying is “Different” and I mean that in a way that is more blessed than I could have ever imagined. I remember God putting this calling on my heart and that day I heard the Holy Spirit say “it is to be different…” I can truly say even from the start it is living up to that standard we were called to.
