Planting Seeds of Hope

Over the last 2 weeks WellSpring has been given an amazing opportunity to begin its first farming project. The ministry was able to secure 2 limas (5 acres) of uncleared land. The task of clearing the land has started and the plan is to grow maize (corn) on all 5 acres.

The expected yield from this investment is 300-320 bags of maize with a value of $4,100. This maize will be used to feed our children and the overage will be sold off and the funds used to reinvest as capital towards the next production crop.

Beyond the obvious economic impact of the farm, both in the maize and cash flow, the other benefit is the heart of WellSpring is to serve those living in extreme poverty in the communities we are working in. Not only to the children we serve, but to the families they are coming from.

This farm is already allowing us to work with some of the families of the children that live at WellSpring. Shilla’s father has been employe to help clear the land. Others are ready to help with the cultivation and planting.

The farm is serving as a technical education program, training in critical life skills. Our future plans include in 2024 creating a farming coop where we assist the families with land, fertilizer, and seed. This initial operation is just the testing ground for that further expanded program.

Please continue to pray for WellSpring as we begin this next critical part of the ministry to the people of Zambia.
