Due to the severe drought impacting Zambia, our team had to identify an alternative water source. After careful consideration, we determined that the most effective solution would be to acquire a 5000-liter water tank and construct a temporary slab capable of safely supporting the filled tank.
We have the capability to purchase water from the municipal supply and have identified several feasible options for transporting the water from the source to our tank.
The team promptly initiated the acquisition of the tank and the construction of the supporting slab. We opted to utilize the clay-rich soil produced by large ant hills, as this type of soil compacts effectively. To enhance the strength of the clay slab, we reinforced it with concrete derived from leftover materials from the recent renovations at our training center on the new property.
The initial filling of the tank posed a challenge once it was installed; we relied on a truck equipped with smaller tanks, resulting in a process that extended over four hours and necessitated multiple trips. Since that time, we have successfully streamlined the refilling process using a truck with a greater capacity than our tank, reducing the entire operation to approximately one hour.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the donors whose generous contributions have made this significant improvement possible.
If you would like to assist further, we still require support to cover the expenses associated with replenishing the water supply every two weeks. The cost for each refill, which includes transportation and water, is $100.00.
